The world needs reliable, firm power more urgently than ever. Electricity demand is surging, the grid cannot expand fast enough, and the available fallback options are often dirty, noisy, costly, or slow to deploy. At the same time, clean energy has never been cheaper — but without a better way to move, store, and deliver it, too much of that energy remains out of reach.

We looked for an energy carrier that could work in the real world: dense, abundant, safe, durable, affordable, and easy to move. Aluminum kept winning. It stores more energy per liter than diesel, ships as ordinary freight, and can sit stable for years without degrading. It also has the potential to be regenerated from its byproduct, creating the foundation for a more circular fuel system.

The pieces are now in place. Battery and fuel cell investment have advanced electrochemical hardware, power electronics, controls, and manufacturing. A generation of engineers has learned how to scale complex energy systems. And new advances in aluminum regeneration are opening the door to lower-cost, more efficient metal fuels.
Voya moved from napkin sketch to working cell at target performance in twelve months. We developed new chemistry, built a new system architecture, assembled a team of serious hardware builders, and secured the funding to scale a new category of clean power.

Voya raises a $13M Seed round, builds its lab, and tests a novel cell architecture that produces first electricity.
Voya raises a $35M Series A, scales cells 30x, tests full stacks, and opens a 28,000 sq ft pilot factory.
Voya scales stacks and systems another 30x as containerized generators powered by aluminum are built and deployed.
Voya powers its first customers with aluminum. Cell, stack, and balance-of-plant hardware are finalized for commercial launch.

Richard Wang is Chief Executive Officer of Voya Energy and a repeat founder in advanced energy. Before co-founding Voya, he founded and led Cuberg, the lithium-metal battery company spun out of Stanford and later acquired by Northvolt, scaling the business to 225 employees and establishing Northvolt’s Silicon Valley advanced technology center. He also advised battery and mobility companies and energy investors on fundraising, go-to-market strategy, diligence, and business planning, bringing a rare mix of deep technical credibility, company-building experience, and capital strategy to Voya’s next stage of growth.
Matt Horton is Chief Commercial Officer of Voya Energy and brings decades of experience commercializing breakthrough energy and transportation platforms. He previously served as CEO of Voltera, where he helped build a leading EV charging infrastructure business, as EVP of Energy and Charging Solutions at Rivian, and as Chief Commercial Officer at Proterra, where he led sales, marketing, financing, and customer service during a period of rapid market expansion. Earlier in his career, he was CEO of Propel Fuels and worked in venture investing across cleantech and advanced materials, giving him exceptional depth in scaling commercial organizations in emerging energy markets.
Steven Kaye is Chief Technology Officer of Voya Energy and brings more than two decades of leadership in battery technology, advanced materials, and R&D-driven product development. Prior to Voya, he served as CTO of Our Next Energy, Vice President of Engineering at Refractal, Head of Advanced Materials at Apple, and Chief Scientific Officer at Wildcat Discovery Technologies. A Ph.D. chemist from UC Berkeley, Steven has led breakthrough materials and battery programs across startups and major technology companies and holds more than 60 patents spanning battery-related innovations.
Matt Lehman is Vice President of Engineering at Voya Energy and brings 25+ years of experience scaling high-performance engineering organizations and executing complex technical programs. He most recently served as VP of Engineering at X-Bow Systems, where he helped scale the engineering team from 75 to 180, and previously held leadership roles at Astra, Vicarious/Intrinsic, and SpaceX. His background leading propulsion, systems integration, and cross-functional engineering execution in demanding aerospace environments makes him especially well suited to drive Voya’s transition from breakthrough technology to dependable commercial systems.
Scott Fisher is Vice President of Business Development at Voya Energy and has spent more than a decade building and scaling clean transportation and energy infrastructure businesses. He previously led commercial development at Prologis Mobility, served as Senior Vice President at Voltera where he built and led the sales and origination team behind hundreds of millions of dollars in EV charging hub contracts, and held senior commercial roles at Greenlots and EVgo. Earlier, he led alternative energy initiatives at NRG, including vehicle-to-grid, EV infrastructure, and distributed energy partnerships, giving him deep experience in complex partnerships, project origination, and market development.
Evelyne McCleland is Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Voya Energy and brings deep experience building brands and launching category-defining products in energy, transportation, climate and advanced technology markets. Prior to Voya, she led marketing and communications at Mainspring Energy, Capella Space, and Proterra, and previously held senior marketing roles at SunPower and Legrand. Across these businesses, she has built and scaled marketing organizations, led product and corporate communications, and helped position pioneering technologies for commercial adoption, investor visibility, and market leadership. Her track record includes helping drive market expansion, category leadership, and brand growth for innovative companies scaling in highly competitive markets.
Brooke Self joins Voya Energy as Head of People & Talent, bringing a proven track record of scaling venture-backed deep tech companies from early stage through hypergrowth and IPO. She has built and led people and talent functions at companies including Electric Hydrogen, Canoo and Virgin Galactic. Across these organizations, Brooke has built talent acquisition and people operations functions from the ground up, with a focus on scaling technical, manufacturing, and executive hiring in highly competitive talent markets. At Electric Hydrogen, she helped scale the organization from 0 to 400 employees in 2.5 years from Series A through C, and at Canoo from 0 to 600+ employees in 3 years from Series A through IPO. At Voya Energy, Brooke will play a critical role in scaling the organization to execute on its ambitious goals through the next phase of expansion.
Rizwan Dard is Chief of Staff at Voya Energy and brings a strong blend of strategy, operations, and climate-tech execution. Before Voya, he was a senior strategy leader at Cuberg, where he helped shape go-to-market strategy, led site selection work for a North American gigafactory, and contributed to efforts that secured $2 billion in capital. Earlier, he spent more than four years at Deloitte Consulting leading complex client engagements and delivering measurable financial and operational improvements, giving him the analytical rigor and execution discipline to support Voya’s scale-up.
Alex Vai is Head of Product at Voya Energy and brings deep experience translating breakthrough battery technology into product development. Prior to Voya, he spent nearly a decade at Ambri, where he most recently served as EVP of Technology and led development of the company’s battery cell product. During his tenure, he helped achieve a 75%+ reduction in high-volume cost and more than a 5x increase in energy density relative to first commercial prototypes, while leading cross-functional work to retire technical risk and support a successful $150 million investment round. As Ambri’s first technical hire, he also helped establish the company’s early technical foundation, including proof-of-concept validation, R&D infrastructure, and early team buildout—experience that positions him well to lead Voya’s product development as the company scales.

Voya’s Strategic Advisory Board brings perspective from data centers, grid services, industrial operations, materials, transportation, defense, and clean technology scale-up - helping Voya navigate the markets where reliable, clean power is most urgently needed.
Brian brings over 20 years of experience across electricity, infrastructure, and data centers. He is co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Cloverleaf Infrastructure, where he is helping expand grid capacity to support large electric loads and economic growth. Previously, he served as Vice President of Energy at Microsoft, where he led the company’s global data center energy strategy and execution of more than 15 gigawatts of renewable energy power purchase agreements. His background gives Voya valuable perspective on large-scale energy strategy, infrastructure development, commercialization, and the demanding power needs of hyperscale data centers as the electric technology stack expands.
Dorian brings more than 25 years of engineering leadership experience building complex technology products and scaling high-performing technical teams. He was most recently Co-founder and EVP of Engineering at Electric Hydrogen, and earlier in his career spent many years at Tesla leading engineering teams working on the original Roadster through the Semi. His background gives Voya strong perspective on engineering execution, product development, and the disciplined scale-up of breakthrough energy technologies as the market demands more resilient, flexible, and rapidly deployable power systems.
Gene is CEO & Co-founder of Sila, a battery technology company that invented & commercialized the Si/C silicon anode for Li-ion batteries in 2021 and brought it to giga-scale production in 2026. Before founding Sila, he was an early Tesla engineer and tech lead on the Roadster battery program. His career reflects a long-standing focus on advancing frontier technologies from early innovation through commercial scale. He brings Voya valuable perspective on technical leadership, product innovation, and building enduring energy technology companies capable of creating entirely new categories.
Gervais is CEO of 5N Plus and brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across advanced materials, metals, and large-scale industrial operations. Before joining 5N Plus, he served as Managing Director of Rio Tinto Aluminium, where he led more than 6,000 employees across five countries, and also held senior roles including Chief Commercial Officer. His background includes deep firsthand knowledge of how metals are produced, managed, and commercialized at industrial scale. He brings Voya an important perspective on scaling metal fuels technology, executing in complex industrial markets, and building long-term value in energy-related sectors.
James is a retired U.S. Army General who most recently served as Commanding General of Army Futures Command, where he was responsible for helping drive the Army’s modernization and future-readiness efforts across a global organization. Earlier in his career, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations, Plans, and Training, and also led the Combined Arms Center and Command and General Staff College. His experience includes helping shape how the modern military delivers resilient power to the front lines and how critical technologies move through large federal institutions. He brings Voya a distinctive perspective on mission-driven energy innovation, government engagement, resilience, and long-term capability building.
Haig most recently served as Chief Transformation Officer and EVP of Operations at Brixmor Property Group, where he led operational performance and transformation across a large, publicly traded, national retail real estate platform. He held that role beginning in 2015 and previously served in a number of leadership positions across development and construction. His experience provides Voya with an owner-operator perspective on how real estate platforms evaluate on-site energy strategy, procurement, and implementation, along with a deep understanding of how these decisions are executed at scale across operating portfolios.
Mathew brings over 15 years of experience building and scaling distributed energy businesses through strategic investment, partnerships, and organic growth. He currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer at CPower, recently acquired by NRG, and has held leadership roles across the energy sector, including Vice President of Distributed Energy at National Grid Ventures and Head of Originations at KRoad DG. His earlier work at Yingli Green Energy as Vice President of Corporate Development further reflects a career dedicated to advancing innovative energy solutions. He brings Voya a strong perspective on energy markets, commercial strategy, and scaling resilient power solutions in a fast-evolving energy landscape.
Peter is co-founder and CEO of Charm Industrial and brings significant experience building and scaling category-defining technology companies. Prior to Charm, he was co-founder and CEO of Segment, the customer data platform company that scaled rapidly before being acquired by Twilio. At Charm, he has led the development of novel carbon removal and fossil-free industrial solutions. His experience gives Voya valuable perspective on company building, commercialization, and translating ambitious technical ideas into scalable businesses that can become critical layers of the future electric technology stack.
Sheldon is the CEO and Founder of Intersect, which was acquired by Google in March 2026. He has spent his career as a builder, leader, and innovator at the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and financial markets, building multiple startups into some of the largest companies in their respective industries. Under his leadership, Intersect grew into one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, developing, building, and operating $15 billion in infrastructure, with 10.8 GW in construction or operation by late 2028, including the world’s largest battery, before being acquired. Prior to founding Intersect, Sheldon served as Chief Operating Officer at Recurrent Energy. He held earlier roles at Calpine, Goldman Sachs, and Accenture. He brings Voya valuable perspectives on capital formation, execution, and meeting the growing power needs of data centers and other large loads.
